- Team sets series record with 14 entrants
- Five podiums, one Coppa Team, and Ladies Cup highlight strong weekend of Ferrari heritage
MONTEREY, California (May 14, 2017) - Beginning the 25th season of the prestigious Ferrari Challenge North America, Scuderia Corsa would celebrate a banner weekend of competition, heritage, and performance during this weekend’s 2017 opener at Laguna Seca Raceway. With the team working as a sister company to four dealerships all located in California, the team was able to deliver in front of of a local crowd by taking five podiums on the weekend.
Before the weekend had even begun, the team arrived at the scenic Monterey circuit as a record-setter, with no team in series’ history having ever shown up with 14 entries for the event.
With the weekend serving as both a racing event as well as a celebration of the heritage of Ferrari DNA, Scuderia Corsa’s performance on and off the track was a success. In the Trofeo Pirelli championship, defending Pirelli World Challenge champion Martin Fuentes would highlight the team’s performance, scoring successive podiums with second and third-place finishes. Not to be outdone, upcoming LeMans competitor Cooper MacNeil would also enjoy a strong weekend, finishing third during Saturday’s Race One and scoring a pole position for Sunday’s Race Two.
Karl Williams would also enjoy a banner day on Sunday, taking pole and victory in the Coppa Shell category. Additionally, Oscar Paredes-Arroyo would enjoy a podium finish during today’s Trofeo event for Ferrari 458 Challenge machines, and similarly Lisa Clark would take victory in the Coppa Shell ladies’ category.
Also enjoying a competitiveweekend, Bret Curtis would also set several fast laps in the Trofeo Pirelli 488 category, while Alistair Garnett, Mark Fuller, Darren Enenstein, Neil Langberg, James Camp, Mike Heagerty, Chris Carel and Michael Fassbender would all show well in the 458 and Coppa Shell divisions.
As a final tribute to the team’s on-track performance, the cumulative result of their assortment of victories and podiums would result in the team being awarded with Team Cup, given to the team with the strongest performance in the Coppa Shell category.
All-in-all, the event was a strong success for everyone involved, with Scuderia Corsa drivers enjoying a fun weekend, and dozens of guests enjoying the team’s hospitality and commitment to celebration.
For Giacomo Mattioli, the undertaking of such a large-scale effort was a true team success.

The next round of Ferrari Challenge competition will take place in four weeks' time, heading north of the border to the prestigious Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Canada. As part of the famed Formula One Grand Prix weekend from June 9-11, Scuderia Corsa drivers will literally take part in the same race weekend as the best teams and driver in the world.
